I know everything seems hopeless or there’s no joy in life now but…
…This will be your first step to overcoming depression and I believe you can do it.
Depression will not give up without a fight so even if you feel like you took 1 step forward and 3 steps backwards, don’t judge yourself.
PRECAUTION NOTE: If you feel that you are depressed, I highly advise that you talk to someone you trust about it or see a therapist.
1. Recognise the warning signs.
When you recognise them, act upon it.
2. Make simple food.
• Frozen dinner
• Canned Tuna
3. Make a “hero” meal.
Start off by setting yourself a goal.
Make sure to start off small but your goal is to cook 1 full recipe every week so try to make it fun.
You could always put music that you like in the background.
4. The meals.
So it’s either you eat 3 big meals OR 6 small meals a day.
Try to avoid sugary food and eat fish at least 3 times or 4 times a week.
Make sure to have a daily dose of vitamin D…
FOR EXAMPLE: Egg yolks or cheese.
5. Can’t cook?
If you are a teenager, you could ask your parents to buy healthier food in the house so you’re not easily tempted.
Another way would be to learn how to cook – Go on Youtube or maybe get a cooking book.
6. Most importantly, don’t judge yourself.
Be fair with yourself.
There are days when you will be proud that you managed to cook a meal and days when you will be proud that you even made it out of bed.
And it’s ok to feel that way.
